20-11-23 Treatment Day 1
So after weeks of waiting D Day finally arrives , Due to a very early start i had an early night in bed , slep like a log no problem at all , up at 5 am , shower breakfast and ready for being collected by the pre booked NHS Transport ,( which i had confirmed on the 15 th Nov ) .
And I waited , and Waited and because I was due to be at Christies having Bloods taken at 8 am and Radiotherapy at 8-20 , and at 7-45 am I am still sat on my Couch at Home , I started to get Stressed , after being very Calm , so i decide to ring NHS Transport , stupid idea Thomas , they dont start until 8am !!!!!, so thats a Fail , Ha I know , my list of Appointments has 2 contact numbers for the Radiotherapy Dept , sorted ?? , no thats far to easy isnt it , because they are Old numbers no longer in use ???? very handy , not !!! Fail
So I try to ring the Chap who is supposed to be taking my Bloods on his number ,good idea Thomas ? not really it goes straight to his Mail Box , Another Fail !!!
Then I try NHS transport again , wow a Voice answers , lovely Sue , so I explain the Situation and she checks her system , which tells her a driver had knocked on my Door at 7 - 40 am ? afraid not I said I live in a Cul de Sac off a Cul de Sac so anyone would be seen ? , Oh hang on she says where were you supposed to go ? I answer Christies in Manchester and I has rang on the 15th Nov and Transport had been confirmed !! , Oh it has she says , but , bringing you to Oldham !! But they dont do Radiotherapy there do they I ask ? No she replies , so what do I do Then , well you will have to Ring the Hospital and speak to them now !!! Fail
Now can you imagine how my calm has drastically dissipated cant you !!
So its now 8-30 am !! and I ring the Oldham Christies because the other numbers dont work do they !! , and amazing a Lovely Lady by the name of Caz answers the Phone and say can help , well yes you can so I explain it all yet again to Caz , who calmly says leave it with me I will get back to you , wonderful ,Sure enough she gets back to me saying she has contacted the Relevant people in Manchester and asks me to try and relax ?? Transport should be with you within the hour ?
I hope your all following this ?
9-15 Transport arrives and off we Jolly well go , 2 minutes later its Saf the man who is supposed to be taking Bloods off me , Mr Slattery ? yes i reply , Where are you he asks ? in a Vehicle I reply , You were supposed to be Here at 8 am !! , no shit Sherlock !!, I would have been if Transport had arrived on time , and you would have known if your Phone wasnt sent to a Mail Box !!Ha sorry about that he says , please come straight to Bloods when you arrive and I will let Radiotherapy know . Wonderful I say , Success .
I hope your still with me because I arrive at 10-30 ,a Tad Late ,but straight to The Blood Suckers , they take another Armful of my finest Red then take me to Radiotherapy who get me in very quickly and my Treatment actually only takes 3/4 minutes and wasnt Daunting or a problem at all ,although the Mask seemed a wee bit tighter ,then i am off to Reception to Get New Up to Date Appointment sheet with Real contact numbers on ( I know because i tested it ) then Paddle down to Transport with the New Proper Timings ON and they update the System , then tell me to take a seat and wait for Transport Home
Then I hear my name called by an Ambulance Lady who introduces herself as Jade and says we have to go to the MRI to collect 2 more Passengers , no problem I say and thank you.
And this is where the Day becomes Hilariously Funny ,Jade is driving and I am in a seat behind and we are just chatting she asks where i am from and I ask where she is From , and Todmorden comes into the Conversation then she comes out with " do you remember when that Policemen was Abducted by Aliens up there ? " , my immediate reaction was a request for her to stop the Ambulance so I could escape !! wouldnt you ? , so she starts elaborating and we are both laughing , so i Google it , and sure enough 2019 PC Alan Godfrey claims to have been abducted by Aliens and dumped on a Factory Roof
So we started exchanging jokes and singing Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Space and other stuff , so funny we were crying laughing so funny , .
And then I was home and Had a Brew then I went shopping .
Wait for next installment ,things can only get better.
Thomas Slattery xx

The mask is quite painful when it is clipped down. The radiographers are all so lovely. We went to a wedding at weekend. One of the radiographers that I had today had remembered and asked me today how it had gone. Fingers crossed Tom that it all comes together. Loving your attitude. Great title for your blog. X
