27-11-23 Day 6 Treatment 6

Good evening everyone , Firstly once again a big thank you to all those who have read my Blog and commented , Its great to read the comments from people all over the place which has made my decision to do it all worthwhile and the comments will be there forever and I can look back on them in  months to come and see how my journey went.

So here we are on week 2 of 6 , first thing to Report that Transport all worked well today  and  that I handed in my Transport Complaint Form at the Transport desk , They read it and said that it would be sent to the Main Transport Hub for them to Action , and also thanked me for doing it , because if no one complains and brings  it to their attention they will never know .

From there it was to Department 1 , the Vampire Department , If you recall I am taking part in  an  EARAD clinical study  into the Potential changes in a Patients Hearing During and after Courses of Radiotherapy , my Oncologist Mr Hughes  is one of the Consultants running it , so the Monday of every week I have to Have my Bloods taken before I have the Therapy , Instead of the normal 1 sample they Nick 4 of those little bottles full which then go to various Labs that are working on the Project , these samples will be compared to Last weeks  for any changes and so on for the Course of Treatment.

Then swiftly over  to Department 39 for my Radiotherapy Treatment , again all went smoothly , The Team asking how I was and if I had a good week end and me asking them the same , and of course wearing my Thomas Trumps Cancer Hat which they love and think its a great Idea. Then its up onto Ray and they position me and put on the Mask and leg it out of the room and the treatment starts , whizzy whizz they are back in and release me from Ray and its Bye Bye until Tomorrow.

Now I have said that I will be perfectly Honest on this Blog and report changes , no point doing it if I dont is there .So during the week end Subtle things , firstly at night during Sleep hours I have started to get a Very Dry Mouth and Throat  which results in me getting out of bed cleaning my teeth again and giving my mouth a good rinse in clean water , which  I have by my bed anyway.  The second change is Taste , I am not Getting the Taste of food when I eat , not all foods just some . But they are changes. But I have to  say that I still feel o.k in myself and as been the case , If  Hadnt been Told  that I had a Throat Cancer ,I wouldnt know it. !!

Tomorrow I am due my Normal Treatment then I go to the Clinical Hub for Review with one of my Consultants , this will be my first one of these so will let you know what happens in tomorrow nights Blog.

Night Night and look forward to you comments.

Tom

  1. Hi Tom great to hear you had a good and “smooth” day, and the transport went well, although there might be the odd day when you will feel like a bit of F1 driving to keep alert…lol. You’re really into the who procedure now, and it’s only been a week!!….Amazing…well maybe not this is Tom we are reading about..🙂. I’ll be glued to this blog tomorrow to hear about your review, fingers crossed it’s all positive, which I have no doubt it will be. I guess the dry mouth and loss of some taste is to be expected considering your treatment. Nothing a few curries won’t pit right…catch you again tomorrow Tom, just going to watch the Fulham game, had a good weekend with games, and the Tottenham vs. Aston Villa was right up there with “great to watch”, didn’t catch your lot though..🫢

Hope your taste is still making out 'the good stuff' eg chocolate and ice cream. Definitely keep us up to date as things get harder but so far so good. But take a good first week and weekend anyway. Cancer Be Gone! xx

  7. Good to hear all went well today matey. Here's to a nice steady week with no upsets.
Also great to see you had a normal weekend, bimble and car lean on Saturday and favourite family popping in Sunday (we'll not mention the hedge 🤔) great relaxing time.
The dryness and taste buds are to be expected and something you've been expecting and as previously mentioned in a comment tonight 'it's ok so long as it doesn't effect you eating 🎂 and 🍦.
    Sleep well my friend xx

  9. Hope the taste changes don't get too drastic, you might start craving cabbage instead of chocolate 😉. Good to see the positivity and that they welcome your feedback on the transport issue. Fingers crossed for good news from your consultant tomorrow 🙏. Angie x

  10. Commenting this evening from Staunton, Virginia . You are doing everything right Tom. The treatment is obviously effective given the first symptoms of side effects so early in the process . Eradication of the tumour on the way.

  11. Glad you’re ok Tom and not suffering to many side effects. The hospital could use your blog as a device for other patients. It’s much better hearing from someone who is going through it, than reading a booklet. Xx
