1-12-23 Day 10 Treatment 10

A very Good evening everyone  and Happy December !! , thanks once again to all those who have read my Blog and Commented on it , I read all the Blogs and they really do meant a lot to me by way of Support ,Fun and general comments , I love you all to Bits .

So today Transport was on Time I even received a Text with an ETA , So perhaps my letter last week did rattle a few cages, this benefits everyone not just me.

Straight down to Dept 39 and Suite 4 , pretty much called in straight away , The Team first asked how I was and was I still having eating and retention Issues , I told them it appears to have cleared and that  I had eaten Breakfast and also had some Tomato Soup before setting out today. They were all very pleased and we got on with the Treatment which again for me Has been the easy bit ,I just lay there and get Zapped .

Treatment over they release and me and I wish them all a good week end and see you on Monday . As i made my way out there was a Gathering around the End of Treatment Bell and a Lad in his late 20s who I had spoke to on various occasions along with his Mum was about to say a few words and ring the Bell !!, they said some lovely words and then Rang the Bell a few times.

Until this afternoon the Significance of  what that simple Bell meant to this family and everyone else there was Plain to see , everyone applauded and we were all hugging each other  and many tears were being shed ,Mine among them , I gave his Mum a big Hug and then him , and he looked me straight in my Tear Stained Eyes and said

YOU CAN DO THIS SOON  !! Oh boy what a moment this was and off they went , so lovely to see.

This was the first Time I had actually seen this Happen and the emotions around the room were plain to see from everyone on their Own Special Journey

What way to end my second week , and apart from the Liquid Paracetamol which I never want to see or take again  I feel that I have handled myself well . All the Staff are so lovely and understanding AND REALLY  DO CARE ABOUT  THEIR PATIENTS  and my Team are wonderful .

So here endeth the second week lets see what week 3 brings , have a lovely week end and see you on the 4 th. December . Love to you all x

  10. What a beautiful day Tom, emotions remind us of who we are and the importance of having each other, be it family or close friends. It was good to hear you have recovered from that nightmare medication, and hopefully that won’t happen again. 2 weeks gone already, some fun and games with the transport, and some wonderful people helping you through this. You didn’t say what you had for tea!, did you manage Shepard's Pie?. How heart warming your experience was meeting that young man and his family, that will be you soon I am sure of that. I’ll touch base with you via messenger over the weekend, speak again soon. ๐Ÿซถ❤️๐ŸŒฒ

The positivity you exude is fabulous, and that is key. But you know that young man who got to ring the 'Bell' is right, you can do this and WILL. You are a wonderful human being Thomas, I guess that's the ASHTON/HARRISON/SLATTERY in you!! I keep meaning to ask you something, as a kid did you ever go rowing on Phillips Park Boating Lake? Have a great weekend Thomas and I look forward to the next instalment of your Blog journey to 'Ringing that Bell'!! Love you loads. ❤️๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚❤️๐Ÿ˜xxxxx

  16. So damn proud of you Tom for getting through Week 2, albeit with the paracetamol reaction and retching. Tough with the changes in not being able to taste, but part of your journey to get through this 6 weeks.

Wow, when I read this on Friday night, I was so moved on the train, had tears in my eyes .
I had to google and find out more about when the Ring The Bell for Cancer started. Now I don't know if you already know this?? It was back in 1996. How completely apt that it was a military man after completing radiotherapy.. albeit neck & head cancer.

"Nowadays it seems nearly every cancer facility has bells that patients can ring to mark the end of treatment. But it’s thought that the tradition began at MD Anderson in 1996.

A rear admiral in the U.S. Navy, Irve Le Moyne, was undergoing radiation therapy for head and neck cancer and told his doctor, Kian Ang, M.D., Ph.D., that he planned to follow a Navy tradition of ringing a bell to signify “when the job was done.” He brought a brass bell to his last treatment, rang it several times and left it as a donation. It was mounted on a wall plaque in the Main Building’s Radiation Treatment Center with the inscription:

    Ringing Out

    Ring this bell
    Three times well
    Its toll to clearly say,
    My treatment’s done
    This course is run
And I am on my way!

    — Irve Le Moyne
