Week 6 , Wed 27-12-23 , day 26 , Treatment 26 of 30 !!
Good evening everyone , firstly I hope you all had a safe and Happy Christmas time .
So than you to all those who read and commented on last Fridays Blog seems ages ago ,4 days without treatment I was having withdrawal symptoms ha ha , amazing how quick the body attunes isnt it. Lots to get through tonight.
So here it is week 6 , Taxi arrived on time and apart from a Flock of Canada Geese deciding to cross the road in front of us, made people laugh , it was a smooth traffic free journey arriving quite early , so straight to have what I thought was my last Vampire visit , Wrong , I now have another on Saturday and the 2nd next Tuesday , oh joy , didnt have to wait long it was the regular Lady who has done them all along , so done and off to Dept 39 suite 4 . and it was very busy so probably a long wait today , which would be very Handy for me.
On Friday I mentioned about my Neck being sore , well apparently the Radiotherapy continues working after the Treatment part , and on Friday evening my Neck Skin started to Blister even though I had been moisturizing and it looked a Bloody mess , so I started applying the Zeroveen Cream that Christies had supplied for such an event , However by Saturday it was much worse, and the Cream was making the area much larger and very Red and Blistered , so I decided to stop using it and use Another product which calmed it down a lot , but its Christmas week end so I decided to not use the Zeroveen and struggle through until I attended at Clinic today .To be honest I was worried that they may stop my Treatment , scared me.
So when I saw Lydia emerge from suite 4 I asked if I could have a word , of course she said and sat next to e and her eyes went straight to my Neck !! and I told her the story , Right she said , dont worry it would have to be something very serious to stop the Treatments at this stage , wow I felt better , I will sort it out for you , Minutes later she comes back with a Polymem Collar , its pre coated on 1 side with medication , she cut to shape so if fitted chin and neck , and is quite comfortable andi keep on for 3 days and the healing process carries on , but take off for shower and Treatment , and also gave me some Flaminol Ointment for the sore bits on my shoulders . Lydia and the Team have been amazing and gone well beyond my Hopes. So I also got a Prescription to take to my Local Pharmacy tomorrow which means I will be able to get stuff when I stop going to Christies , wonderful Lady.
So then because its busy I end up in Suite 10 for treatment , and they wrap my Neck area in Cling film so the Mask would not stick to my face , I felt like a Ham Sandwich ha ha , Treatment done I am then told I have to Now go and see the Dietitian and Doc , that wasnt in the script today and I now know its going to be a Late one !! Hey Ho
So off the waiting room around the Corner and sit and wait , eventually called over by the Male Nurse to get weighed and taken to and interview room to wait again ( now I have told you about weird Co incidence here ) on my way round who do I see ?
Jimmy and His Dad who are Part of my Team on the Blue Tower at Old Trafford as Safety Stewards like myself , now how spooky is that ? it Turns out that Jimmys Dad was found to have A Brain Tumour in early October and had had an Operation ,And his Dad was Having Radiotherapy Jimmy of course knew about me but what were the chances of meeting up Here ? Anyway were having a good catch up when my Doc appeared and took me away into the Interview room .
So the Doc was aware of my Neck from Lydia so was all o,k with what we had done , we had a good chat and update she looked down my throat checking all was well no Ulcers which is good . She said they were very pleased how things had gone despite some issues along the way and that I had repaid their trust and confidence in me to get through this Journey , which made me feel very good considering the state of my neck , and I had Promised Mr Hughes I would do it , stupid boy Pike . So a Handshake and off I went to Check it Transport 4-45 pm and Waited over an Hour tonight but roads were clear at that time.
So there you are up to date , I am now going to watch Match of the Day which I recorded last night !!
Enjoy the Blog night night
Love you all , now keep me going for just a bit longer please x
It's good you're seeing the positive through all the pain and discomfort, the nurses are doing a good job too. At least this time next week you'll be done with Ray
ReplyDeleteYou are doing brilliantly Tom, and have come a long way, keep up the good work Lisa xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to read that you had such a tough time, but good to see that the medics are listening to you and trying to eleviate things. Sending hugs. x
ReplyDeleteAnother day nearer the end Tom, keep that finish line in sight..xxx I bet the doctors comments lifted you today, it's definitely a two way process and it's lovely that they acknowledged your trust in them too. Enjoy the footy and sleep well xxx
ReplyDeleteWell done for using all the creams & asking advice.I would be panicking too that they’d stop the treatment. Not much longer at Christie’s,you’re doing so well.Take care xx
ReplyDeleteHope you had a 'good' Christmas as far as you could Tom. I'm glad you don't seek in great pain and you still have your usual wit and friendly banter! Sure you are their favourite patient by now ;) So it's the Cone of Shame for you, is it! They always seem to have a solution for whatever issue, even if the first one doesn't suit, there is always another. I'm impressed by this Christie's place. Final push to GET IT DONE - you got this! Making it look easy but I'm sure it's not been (maybe easier than Rhod made it look but then he maybe wasn't as well prepped.)
ReplyDeleteChristies staff will certainly miss you! On and on! X
Oh Tom, I giggled at the ham sandwich comment. Only you!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are SMASHING this into the back of the net. Hopefully good news will follow, because after this gargantuan effort you most certainly deserve it.
Keep going just that little bit longer my friend, and I look forward to catching up with you in person very soon. I’ll even bring you a chippy tea around when you’re ready for it!
Lots of love xx
Oh you are going through it Tom but as up beat as always, even though you probably feel like kicking the cat.

ReplyDeleteThe blistered skin looked painful, but glad you got that sorted too, sounds like everything is going smoothly, even the transportation, 5 weeks ago it sounded like the dark ages…lol. Proud of you matey, you have managed this like only Thomas could, you should give yourself a Pat on the back….no not yet, don’t want you pulling a muscle or something. It sounds like
, from the chat you had with the doc, that they are pleased with how things are going, and enough experience to know this is all going in the right direction…..beating the bugger. Catch you gain tomorrow for day 4..!!!π«Άπ«Ά❤️❤️π
Hey Tom. You're on the final week. You've been through so much but you being you have remained positive and always tried to put your humor into your blog which I know has amused us all. Hopefully now the worst is over and the healing process will continue. You're totally amazing! You've got this and Tom will Trump Cancer. Hopefully the new meds will ease the pain around your neck and the healing can continue. Big hugs x
ReplyDeleteSuch great news about there being no ulcers! And they are pleased how well you’ve been doing on this challenging journey!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for wonderful people such as Lydia!
You made me giggle Tom with your ‘ham sandwich’ description.
(No idea what a Polymem collar looks like. I had this vision of something similar to what cats and dogs have to wear after a visit to the vet!!) Let’s hope in the next couple of days it will help it really heal. And relieve the discomfort.
Counting down the days on less than one hand. Keep going Tom xx
Wow Tom sounds like your starting to go through it. But sounding incredibly positive which is amazing. I truly hope you feel as you sound xx Julie
