Blog update Friday 19-1-24
Firstly thanks everyone for your continued interest and reading Previous Blogs , much appreciated .
After my last Blog on the 10th Jan I have been on the Anti Biotics as Prescribed because the wound was infected on my neck and very sore , and I continued to use the New Cream which is amazing stuff , it took a few days to get on top of the Neck wounds with bathing them twice a day in clean warm water and changing the Neck collar twice a day , but it worked really well to the extent that yesterday was my first day without a collar for many weeks but I did use Moisturiser on my neck which felt lovely , the issue I had been fighting was the thick discharge in my throat which was making me get out of bed 3 or 4 times a night and vomiting and retching to clear it ,not a nice experience and this obviously ruined my sleep pattern , I had been given some medication by the Crisis team to take 4 times a day with the design to Thin the discharge , it did but took a couple of weeks again stopping as recently as Yesterday so I had a pretty good kip last night . Another issue with a discharge from my Right ear but thats for Earad de Brief at some point . Still not used any Painkillers since Christmas Eve , not being a Hero just being in control of my situation.
Developments , Now these may sound trivial to you but I can assure you they are Milestones for me ,bigger that Man on Moon ha ha ,on Monday when I did my weekly shop I got adventurous , I bought a small Toasty Loaf , Chocolate Hob Nobs , Jellies , Crumpets, and some Fillet steak and Aero chocolate. On Tuesday I dunked a Chocolate Hob Nobs in my tea and managed to eat it , in pieces of course , it was a little uncomfortable but no pain no gain , 1st Success , Tuseday I managed a Crumpet at Breakfast ,cut into quarters with lots of Butter 2 nd Success , Wednesday morning lightly done toast with Marmalade and butter and crusts removed first 3 rd success , Wednesday afternoon ultimate bravery a Piece of Fillet steak and a Fried egg , couldnt taste or smell smell but it went down a treat I must say .
Last night I was a Bev and Marks for tea and I smelt Flowers and Pastry !!!
Those are Massive changes for me I assure you
Well today I drove myself to the Christies appointment , very adventurous and even managed to Park up on Oak Road just outside main entrance , very Handy found my way to dept 22 and checked at waiting room 1 , after a short time called to and an Interview room where I was left for 40 minutes until a Doctor appeared who knew nothing about my case or me , very useful !! , but basically was a meeting after my Trip to Acute care on the 7th for which I had a de brief already last week , I explained about the issue with Hot Line not being Hot at all , he didnt like that , and I explained about the wrong cream being prescribed which then caused an Infection for which I needed Anti Biotics !! he didnt like that either , he settled for saying that he was Happy my neck had cleared up after using the correct Cream and he would be in touch with dates for my next scan and no intervention needed ( I spent an hour on a pre meeting questionaire On Tuesday he never even referred to it , I was quite annoyed really and with that I walked to my Car and departed the Christie, without delay .
So thats it your bang up to date my tech friend Bev will post some pics Later showing the Infected wounds before during and after a little nasty but right you see them . If any other major developements happen i will update everyone .
Take care out there
Love Tom x

Tom thanks for this update and insight into just small windows of the horrendous time you have been through, starting Nov 20, 2024. For me what magnifies these times is the fact that you were alone!!, yet you managed them better than most of us would have. I won’t ask who the doctor was or where he was from!!. Great to hear the collar has come off and the neck is healing nicely, great to hear also you’re venturing back into the culinary world…lol. Seriously Tom this all sounds like you’re getting back to yourself and the old Tom. Is / was there any indication of how the treatment went?, I know you said the last visit they were very happy with things. On a lighter note…at least driving yourself there removed any anxiety you have had in the past with F1 drivers, or trying to work out where you were going……everyday you went a different way…lol. Good to hear today went well, and your venturing out with your eating and what you’re able to eat…. again. Cheers Tom, chat soon, good to have you back…🫶🫶
ReplyDeleteGoodness you're really going through it Tom!! What a difficult time you're having. You're getting through it and great you're eating better now. All sounds positive so keep going. Soon be nice weather and spring sunshine. Xxx
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad you are doing better yes slowly but surely recovering, radiation always messes people up remember the army videos,
ReplyDeleteYour neck looks so much better Tom. That must be a relief. It seems you are gradually getting your taste/smell back too. Brilliant!!! Love and hugs Dee. Xxx
ReplyDeleteSo pleased that you have achieved these milestones. Well done Tom! Great to hear your neck is so much better (still can't believe you were prescribed the wrong cream!), and that you were able to drive instead of relying on the numpty drivers! Keep on fighting and being ace!! 😘 xx
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update Tom. Things seem to be improving at last. And fillet steak, that certainly isn't soft food, so you must be making great progress.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up. You are amazing 👏 xx
Wow Tom your neck looks horrendous. Can't believe how the wrong cream was prescribed for you. It looked so pain for you. It looks like your neck is tons better than it was.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting out a bit now and trying yo eat a few different things.
Onward and upward for you. Take lots of care Tom. xx
Blimey what a tough time you’ve had and so glad your necks improving and you can start eating & smelling more💙
ReplyDeleteHi Tom. Just read your blog and seen the pictures from start to finish. What a bloody mess !! And then at the end totally cleared up, amazing stuff that cream lol. But in between sounds like you've been going through it alright, phlegm, being sick, and they don't know why, is it the radiation, who knows? And for the Dr not to know anything about your case I find incredible! But on the positive side, you're eating better, and keeping it down, so that's something positive at least. So we wait for the next scan and what it reveals. You're looking better I must say in the face, I'm pleased to see, so keep posting your progress on here, fingers crossed for the scan Tom, lots of love xx ♥️
ReplyDeleteWow, Tom! Look at that end photo, very glad it's all cleared up for you, must have been very painful. And got to have your foodie treats, I assume you can't taste them yet though?! Sure you are very happy to get to Christies under your own steam too, home quicker etc. So seems like you might be getting through this and are dare I say almost comfortable? Hopefully you are, its been a rough unknown time for you, but you have really smashed it. Can't believe our Lincoln weekend was prior to all this starting and now it's done. I'm sure the scan in a few months will be clear, we all hope that for you hon xx
ReplyDeleteSo pleased your neck is healing and great that you are celebrating your wins. It is a big thing and right to publicise. 🍾 thanks for being so honest about it all. Janet xx
ReplyDeleteHi Tom, wow what an update! Highs and lows for sure, but your neck is looking so much better and you sound so much happier and more positive.
ReplyDeleteI know you’ve always enjoyed your food so it must have been heaven to introduce some of those yummy treats back into your diet. Another milestone, really.
Your skin is starting to look much more healthy again and hopefully soon we will see that lovely smile we know and love on your face again.
You’re smashing it, just like you said you would!!
Lots of love and see you very soon xx
Ouchy ouch!!! Glad it is healing up so well. Not good though that it happened in the first place, you had enough on your plate as it was. Keep up the hard work, your winning the battle xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update and photos. Fingers crossed you are now coming out the otherside and things will recover naturally xxx
ReplyDeleteOmg! The wounds look horrendous! No wonder you were in so much pain. Sooooo pleased the antibiotics, cream and collar have worked and your neck is looking so much better. So great to hear the little wins but for you are big wins! Sounds like things are moving in the right direction. I hope things carry on that way. Big hugs xx
ReplyDeleteWow. No wonder you were in pain. Onwards Tom! Lots of love, the wards
ReplyDeleteThomas those pictures are fabulous, showing the healing process. What pain you must have been in!! As to the Doctor you saw, it is so frustrating when they can't even be bothered to read your notes, it infuriates me to think what our NHS has become. We have caring helpful nurses working their socks off, an others who at best seem indifferent!! What a courageous man you are. Well done on navigating your way through all of this. Also I am so pleased you are beginning to enjoy eating, such a small thing that we all take for granted. Onwards and upwards Thomas, my hero in every sense of the word. Love you big man xxx kisses and hugs xxx
