Blog update 29-4-24

Hello everyone and yes I am still surviving struggling to put weight back on , still suffering from the Lack of Smell and the Dry mouth which doesnt help really  but have been told to be a Patient Patient , yeah right !!

Last week I was given the all clear at North Manchester General by the Dietitian people who assure me I am doing well on getting things working again , and the Head Neck and Throat people who asked me questions and did some tests and checks and said they are Happy with my progress and to stop beating myself up about things that are normal after Radiotherapy . O.K I will !!

So today it was back to Christies  for planned X Rays , Ultra Sound and Biopsies on the Lymph Nodes that had shown up on the PET Scan last time

So check in at Dept 2 went o.k didnt wait long and was taken to X Ray which was pretty routine really . The next Part Ultra Sound a lovely Lady by the name of Michelle called my name and off we went to a Room with a Scanner and a bed and a Doctor came in and explained what was going to happen ,interesting and scary , Fine Needles in my neck again Ha ha   πŸ˜„

So it was shirt off and lay down on the bed , he then put loads of Gel on my neck and just told me to Lie on my back , he then started to use a little Scanner all over me neck checking the Monitor as he went along using more Gel as required to get a good image , look to my Left then look to my Right , just then the Consultant arrived , must have been having a Brew !! ,they had a brief discussion then said they were now going to do the Biopsies , I asked for Unaesthetic but they just laughed as usual when I make that request , Look to your Left please he said , you may feel some little Pricks , woops Vicar !!, to be honest it wasnt bad until he waggled them around , a little discomfort thats all . Then he said turn to the Right and as I did I was facing the Bloody Monitor I could see what he was doing , again a little prick and I could see the needle on screen , they were talking about what he was trying  to get to , about 9 mm in size , Left a bit up a bit , like the Golden shot of Old after a few minutes they Decided it was very close to a Blood vessel and they didnt want to damage it and cause a Bleed in my neck , at this point I closed my eyes !!.

They decided they had adequate sample or were happy with what they had seen and took the Needle out , I opened my eyes again.

Right they said thats it done clean up and off you go and results on the 10 th May with Mr Hughes in Dept 22.

I thanked everyone for looking after me and escaped to fresh air and a drive to do my shopping , then home and now doing this update

Thanks everyone for your continued support fingers crossed for the 10 th May.

Love Tom x

  8. Through the bloody wars again Tom, but everything’s looking good, I know the waiting must be agony for you, and it’s alright us lot saying the things we do, we haven’t been through, and hopefully never will have to go through what you have been through….and on your own. But the finish line is close, and looking back at those dark - not only winter days, things must feel more positive for you. Roll on May 10, get the all clear and look forward to big changes at OT πŸ€”… Thanks for posting Tom and keeping us close to you, it’s been an honour being with you through this journey, you should be very proud of the way you have managed the last 6 months, I certainly am proud of you…and that’s not easy to say for a City supporter to a big REDS supporter….cheers Tom. πŸ«ΆπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘❤️

  17. Well no wonder I am hasty, I hadn't seen this update. So sorry Thomas. Ok so the 10th it is for more results. I know what you mean about the biopsy bit, I had kidney biospy done in October and it was when they tried cutting out the sections they wanted that it hurt. But all in all it was quick and I was breathing sighs of relief. xxx
