Blog Update 2-9-24 appointment 30 of 2024
Blog update Monday 2-9-24 at Manchester Royal Infirmary
So due to having no Car at the moment today I used my Seniors travel Card and traveled by Train, Tram and Bus to my 30 th Hospital Appointment of 2024 to Manchester Royal Infirmary Department of Nuclear Medicine , it is based in the St Marys Maternity section which confused me slightly 😂 Due to not knowing its location and using public transport I had made sure I was early today and checked in at the Reception desk with no Problems .
After a while my name was called and off I went , strange I wasnt nervous this time , it is number 3 !! but they work totally different to Christies my male nurse was Guy and he took me through to a small cubicle to weigh me and Measure me , pretty standard routine now , he then went through a questionnaire with me and explained what was going to be happening once that was done we went through to another Cubicle where he promptly made another hole in my arm for a Cannula to be inserted ,I must admit he was good at that bit . He then said he was now going to leave me and prepare The Radioactive stuff , and this is where the massive difference became apparent , I wasnt in a Lead Lined Room !! the Doors are left Open !!and straight out onto a Corridor ? weird ? , then a Male Nurse by the name of Amjad came in with a little trolley and explained he was doing the Injection , first some Saline then he gets a totally different Syringe out of a Metal Box which has the Radioactive element in it , Injects that into the Tube then connects another Syringe of Saline and flushes the Radioactive material into my body , I dont feel anything at all this time ? perhaps i am used to it !! , then the next surprise , he says he is now leaving me for 1 hour ( normal ) and for me to just relax no reading anything just rest , covers me with a blanket and walks out ? leaving door open and me in clear view to those passing though it wasnt busy just totally different to higher security at Christies ? After exactly an hour he returns takes the Cannula out ( different again ? ) asks me to put my shorts on go for a Pee and takes me into the CT Scanner room , explains what he will do and what he wants from me then straps me on the scanner and leaves the room and the scanner starts up , at Christies you ge a Hold Your Breath Message then A Breathe normally message ! , Not here , just stay perfectly still until its finished . Once stopped in another male Nurse comes and says thats it get dressed and you can go ?? no sitting in a room to make sure your o.k ? no cup of tea or biscuit ? he just walks me to the Corridor and says thank you very much !! thats me done So off Paddle and then its Bus into Manchester , Tram to Victoria station then short walk across platforms and catch the Train to Moston and Home . Amazing how different Hospitals have different procedures and Protocols this was certainly a lot quicker than Christies were or again maybe I am just getting used to the procedure , any way no complaints at all , well looked after and everything well explained by the team involved , so now its wait for the results on Monday the 23 rd at North Manchester General and Miss Penney and we will hopefully get a good idea of where we are at with the Nodes , Change ? or No Change? from the June 17th Scan . Fingers crossed , Saturday the 7th it will be exactly 12 months from the day I went to A & E at North Manchester Hospital , wow what a Year that has been !! I want to thank my Family and my Friends for the continued support that I receive from you ,ITS BEEN BLOODY TOUGH I CAN TELL YOU BUT WITH YOUR HELP I HAVE GOT THIS FAR !!! LETS SEE WHAT COMES NEXT
Love to you all Tom x

ReplyDeleteSee Tom I have been saying it all along, men can multi task!!, you had a doctor who talked to you while injecting you, and covering you with a blanket….😉. Interesting how different the 2 hospitals have been, especially the leaving the door open so you don’t feel locked away!!. It’s all going well Tom, I still have no doubt the test will come back with positive results. As for being with you all the way….thats what friends are for 🫶🫶
