Blog Update Monday 7-10-24 Appointment 32 of 2024 North Manchester General Hospital
Well its been a while since I last bored you all with an Update , some things have been Happening that did not warrant me doing a Blog but I have an update that is worth mentioning . It is almost 12 months since Mr Baldwin said those words YOU HAVE A THROAT VIRUS CANCER Since then I have shared my Journey with you all and its been a tough one indeed, to that end this will probably be The LAST BLOG that I write unless there are any Major Developments .
You are aware that I took the Decision to Decline the Major Neck Dissection Surgery at this time and requested another PET Scan which was granted and done at MRI , Today I attended North Manchester General Hospital to get the Results of that Scan .
I will have my usual moan first , my appointment was for the 23 rd September but was cancelled at Short notice due to the Consultant being unwell and re fixed for today the 7th at 11 am , so I arrive early and check in at reception only to find it isnt with Miss Penney but yet another new Surgeon Mr El-Rhatatneh , I asked where Miss Penney was and told she is on Vacation !! so I asked why my first appointment had been cancelled instead of seeing someone else just like I have done today ? A smile and a shrug of the shoulders didnt really cut it with me, after waiting an extra 2 weeks for the results ?
I will refer to him as Mr- El asked if it was my birthday soon and will it be a good one ? , I answered hopefully better that last year but that depends on you doesnt it and what you tell me ?
Mr-El answered and cheered me up " Previous noted Cervical Lymph Nodes generally show minimal Reduction in size and Uptake " , so basically the Ongoing Reduction Had continued !! , with no Growth and Situation is " Stable" π This was what I had hoped for , no increase , stay the same , or reduce ,
Well was I bloody Happy ? dead right I was in my own mind , Vindicated with my decision on the Surgery , which I might have been recovering from or waiting for now !!
I said thank you to Mr-El for the good news , he said I had to be Cautious and things could change ! , I accepted that and always have done , my risk ,my decision . Hestill favoured the Surgery and I said Not at This Time Thank You . He said that he respected my decsion and would take it back to the Team and Miss Penney for discussion . I said thats Fine Miss Penney knows my view .
We then a further discussion and I asked about other Options if things did Deteriorate in the Future , is more Radiotherapy and Option to Zap the Nodes ? , Mr_El said that would not normally be an option nor would Chemotherapy , I then said just because its not normal doesnt mean it cant Happen ! , they would not normally have given the Treatment I had to someone of my Age but they did ? , we left the discussion at that stage .Mr_EL then asked if could examine my neck and throat which he did saying that he couldnt feel the problem Nodes !! , he then requested if he could Camera my Throat , I reluctantly agreed thinking it will show if anything is wrong in there , so I allowed his pleasure of getting his own back on me π so he had his playtime and couldnt see any abnormality so I was Happy and he was .
We shook hands and thanked each other and I left , smiling for a change.
So folks thats the situation , I will wait to hear from them on their plan , I will stick to my Plan if I can do and see what happens , But its been a long 12 Months my Throat Cancer was Zapped and the Nodes will do what Nodes do for much longer in their place .
I have started a Formal Complaint against Christies for some of the Cock ups that have happened to me that I dont want to Happen to Anyone Else in future !!
So Thanks for everything Family and friends , thanks for being there through the Really Shit Times and they were I assure you ,
IF ANYTHING DRASTIC HAPPENS I WILL LET YOU KNOW , GOD BLESS YOU BYE BYE
Tom Slattery π❤

Thanks Tom for the support as I go through my own journey, I was interested in the fact that you are making a complaint against Trust as I am considering same as one of their locals managed to remove one half of my vocal chords with being heavy handed with camera and has failed on a couple of requests from his colleagues to submit a report over incident.
